What Sets Us Apart?

An important side note about the medical field and healthcare professionals. I am a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Michigan. Not to be confused with a certified personal trainer or physical therapist. Athletic trainers hold a license and provide healthcare services in orthopedic injury prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. We treat the general population and athletic individuals suffering from orthopedic pain and injury. This is similar to that of a physical therapist; however, physical therapists tend to work with an older population with diseases.

Additionally, personal trainers are only certified to prescribe fitness programs with general nutrition guidance. They are not legally allowed to do the above listed for athletic trainers and physical therapists. Brain Meets Brawn is a mixture of athletic training and personal training with an emphsis and brand revolving around athletic training. We are the antithesis of physical therapists and are in direct competition with that profession.

Meet the Doc

Derek Hill , DO

Go blue! Derek graduated from the university of Michigan, and in a twist of fate, is a clinical associate professor in the department of surgery at Michigan state university. He is board certified by the American osteopathic board of orthopedic surgeons. His current practice is located in Ferndale, MI.

Michael Gorney

Straight out of central Michigan university (fire up chips!), Mike found his passion in physical medicine early in his career. Through that experience, he learned the importance of living a pain-free life, but more importantly, getting individuals back to the workouts and sports they love most.
